how to change visual studio trial key to the license version ? Recently i installed the trial version of visual studio professional 2008 and i recently got the license for the same when i tried to put the key i could not find the option any where in the visual studio when i pressed upgrade from the help menu i was redirected to some some Microsoft purchase web page so after a brief search i came to know we can upgrade to licensed version from trial by rerunning the setup or by clicking the upgrade from add and remove programs as shown in below pic....
and giving the new license or product key and pressing upgrade button as shown in below pic
if the change button in add/remove programs for some reason does not work you can follow below steps
- Open in notepad or edit plus or any text pad program the following file "%ProgramFiles%\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 Team Suite - ENU\setup.sdb"
- Search for [product key] section
- Change the 25 digit license key obtained officially from Microsoft and close it
- Now you can check whether license has changed or not by clicking add/remove programs or by running setup program again and cancel after the first page
