Whenever i want to transfer huge data between my computer and laptop it was a huge task for me to split the files and transfer data between the pcs using my 2GB flsh drive then i figured a smart way of doing so by directly connecting the two PC's ..... If all you want to do is connect two computers together to form a small network, a simple network configuration like that shown in Figure below is all you need.
1) Connect ports using a (cross over) x-over cable
2) Install (or check that is installed) the same network protocol on
each machine (eg TCP IP).
3) Configure the protocol for the port on each machine so that they will
"see" each other
(eg set one to an address of 192.168.1.1 with a net mask of
255.255.255.0, set the other to 192.168.1.2 with a net mask of
255.255.255.0)
4) Create an identical account (same name, same password) on both
machines and log in using these identical accounts
5) Share the directory (ies) containing "the large amounts of stuff"
6) Disable any firewall software on each machine, or better, configure
it to recognise the other machine.
7) Go via network neighborhood to the shared directory (ies)
8) and Restart both the computer
9) Transfer the data you wanted
And after connecting don't forget to share the folder you want to access on another computer sharing can easily be done by right click on the folder and in properties select share the folder option
