so how can this tool tell whether the image is original or duplicate? JPEGsnoop is a software that can detect JPEG image compression used by the camera in saving the file. Each digital cameras specifies a compression quality levels, many of them wildly different, leading tothe fact that some cameras produce far better JPEG images than others and this is useful in determining whether or not the image/ pic is original or duplicate and doctored in anyway....

in the second pic you can see that the application reports the image as processed or edited. where as in first PIC it shows that “Image has high probability of being original”. JPEGsnoop can decode any file that has the jpeg imbedded in it and supports format such as .JPG, .THM, .AVI*, .DNG, .CRW, .CR2, .NEF, .ORF, .PEF, .MOV*, .PDF.
JPEGsnoop reports a huge amount of information, including: quantization table matrix (chrominance and luminance), chroma subsampling, estimates JPEG Quality setting, JPEG resolution settings, Huffman tables, EXIF metadata, Makernotes, RGB histograms, etc. you can download JPEGsnoop here if you guys know any other software that is similar to this do let us know

but what prevents one from editing the pic in photoshop, then saving it on the compact flash card, opening it with the camera, editing with camera, resave onto card, then back to computer? Some cameras have the ability to make rudimentary changes to images...
