Duplicate flash drives (kingston) are flooding in Bangalore and Chennai and almost all the parts of india, usually this kinda pen /flash drive is distributed by road side person who approaches you and say they found these pen drives in abandoned godowns and they are selling these pen drives for lowest price the price depends on the person who is dealing with, the same fake pen drive will be sold from rs 300 - rs 1200 depending on the person.
These fake pen drives are manufactured using famous brand names such as Kingston, transcend and sandisk these pendrives are tweaked so that it shows 32GB in the properties making it hard to identify it as a fake at first look.
So guys when if you are planning to buy a pendrive get it from a trusted source or dealer with the warranty else you gonna loose money for nothing

India is definately being impacted by counterfeit usb flash drives. We see this in traffic to our site and also comments for assistence. Unfortunately we do not know just how bad it is.
There is a Project that was started last year called the FrankenFlash Project. People are fighting back against this issue and it is Global.
The main site is at: http://sosfakeflash.wordpress.com/
You will find a ring of sites linked to address different issues:
General Information - SOSFakeFlash
News - FakeFlashNews
Fight Fraud - fightflashfraud
Fixing Fake Flash Devices fixfakeflash
Consumer Information - FlashDriveFacts
The newest site is FlashDriveFacts, it is geared to provide education and information on the subject of flash based usb devices. Also consumer and reseller education.
FlashChipTutor just began a series on known Kingston DataTraveler fakes. It shows the drives and the packaging. This site also a validation category where people can verify if their items are genuine or not.
A favorite article of mine is called: Ebay Fake Flash Sellers Alert India - A Mystery In New Delhi at the news site.
Digitally altering usb flash drives to "lie" about their real size to operating systems is both devious and dangerous to users - they loss data. It occurs in the orient, making a little usb flash drive appear much larger than it is. The moment a person goes over the true capacity of the flash drive chip - data loss begins.
Everyone who buys a usb pen flash drive should test it for it's true capacity before storing any data on it. Google for H2testw 1.4
You will get the post that explains everything and the links to follow to get the free software. Never use a usb flash pen drive without testing it, no matter where you buy it from. Fakes and counterfeits are showing up everywhere and also in some retail stores.
The Project does wonder what the impact is in India - we mainly track eBay and also wholesale sites in the orient.
