how to disable annoying auto updates in adobe reader? For those who are using Acrobat reader knows the nagging silent automatic updates which makes the net slow by consuming the bandwidth and if u r net is of limited usage it probably uses one day quota ;) and also some times it hangs the system and does not allow to close the pdf file in browser if updates are in progress...
here are the steps to disable the automatic updates in the acrobat reader
Step1: In help menu select the check for update option

step2: Click on the preference option

step3: make sure you select both the option

Thanks for this.
The sneaky bugger was in the process of downloading a 32MB update before I caught it.
THANK YOU for posting this. They hid the update preferences in the help menu? What is Adobe's OCD fixation with updating their reader on all of our systems? And why does it continutally need to be patched so much? I wonder how much processing power and electricity this wastes worldwide everyday.
Thanks for information!
Esto solo funciona si el usuario esta conectado a internet.
Si no esta conectado no aparece la opcion preferencias.
Many thanks for this. :D
thanks man!!! I was looking for that.
Many Many Thanks for the Tweak.....
Cheers Dude! - A couple of us couldn't quite figure out how to do this until googling and found your article. A valuable blog post!
Thank you. Saved me 105MB of useless downloads!

thanks dude
It helped me a lot! Tks! Again and again!
Great!!
Good Job!
There's more too. What I typicaly do to adobe reader after I install it is to find 'updater.api' in its plugins folder, and remove all permissions to it, then do the same thing for 'reader_sl,exe' and any DLL or EXE files that look like they have anything to do with updates.
Seriously do we really need all this JUNK running in the background?! Alternativly, on my personal PC I just use Foxit Reader, its lightweight without loads of bloat.
it works
thank a lot
